From studies the first microvascular surgery, using a microscope to aid in the reconditioning of blood vessels was described by Jules Jacobson - University of Vermont in the year 1960. The first triumphant in replantation was noted in 1964 by Harry Bunke. This replantation of a rabbit's ear was noteworthy because tiny blood vessels which are of 0.04 in (0.1 cm)—close in size to the blood vessels found in a human hand—were successfully done.
After two years from then, replantation of a toe to the hand of a monkey was made achievable using microsurgical methods. From then microsurgery is being performed.
