Human skull is composed of cartilage and bones that form the cranium and the face that apparently surrounds the brain. Anyone can feel the bones of the cranium on top of their skull. The five bones form the bottom, of the cranium are from the eye socket, some of the sinuses, the bones that surround the inner ear and the roof of the nasal cavity.

Also, the skull base is a complicated and crowded area with various openings where the spinal cord, blood vessels as well as the nerves pass through. This surgery is done to remove both cancerous and benign growths, and abnormalities on the underside of our brain, the top few vertebrae of the spinal column or the skull base. As this is a strenuous area to see and reach, it can be done by a minimally invasive endoscopic procedure where the instruments are inserted via the natural openings in the skull, which means the mouth or nose or by making a small hole just above the eyebrow.

Skull base surgery requires a team of specialists who are neurosurgeons, ENT surgeons, and radiologists.
