This condition can occur anywhere along the spine which can cause weakness and pain. Herniated discs can also cause other spinal disorders.

While discectomy, a neurosurgeon will excise a part or entirely the damaged disc in order to alleviate such symptoms. It can also be a standalone procedure, or it can be performed in conjunction with the spinal fusion, laminectomy, or other surgeries.
