What is Psychiatry?

Psychiatry is usually that branch of medicine that focuses on the diagnosis, treatment and early prevention of mental, emotional and often behavioural disorders. As a physician, psychiatrists are capable of prescribing medication and can also order or perform complex medical laboratory and psychological tests that can provide a comprehensive profile of the patient's physical and mental state. Because of these extensive medical training, psychiatrists can understand the body's functions and decode the complex relationship between complex emotional illness and other medical illness. Psychiatrists are very much qualified to treat both the mental and physical aspects of all psychological problems.
