What is Otolaryngology?

An otolaryngologist is commonly referred to as an Ear, Nose & Throat specialist. S/he is an expert in the surgical and the medical treatment of diseases of the neck and head. Otolaryngologic surgeries can range from simple and short procedures like ear tubes to complex and lengthy cases like a laryngectomy which is the removal of a larynx.

Fields of expertise for otolaryngologists are aplenty and include rhinology, for instance, sinus surgery, facial plastic surgery, otology which is medical and surgery treatment for chronic or acute ear disease and balance disorders, neck and head surgery which is surgical treatment of neck and head cancer) and laryngology (larynx). The Otolaryngologists are also trained and equipped to treat patients of all ages including the pediatric. This extensive training allows the healthcare specialists to provide comprehensive surgical and medical treatment of the head and neck disorders.
